Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012

Mary Katrantzou premiered her F12 collection a couple weeks ago at London Fashion Week. One of my new favorite designers, Mary's aesthetic is bright, girly, and in your face loud. Her use of feminine silhouettes and intricate patterns make each one of her pieces more unique and outrageous than the next. With a line for Top Shop coming out for Spring 2012, we can all fulfill our childhood fantasy, and prance around like the true avant-garde princesses we always knew we were.

LCD Soundsystem Nostalgia

On that fated day in February, one year ago, LCD Soundsystem announced that they would play one final show at Madison Square Garden to bid their fans farewell. They were "breaking up," and with those heavy words, one of the best live dance/jam bands of our generation was dead.
Well, not quite exactly dead...
Because this past Sundance Film Festival premiered Shut Up and Play the Hits, a documentary following James Murphy during that last performance.

Shut Up and Play the Hits

For anyone who loves LCD Soundsystem and was not lucky enough to be at their last performance, Shut Up and Play the Hits, is a dream come true. Just watching the trailer has re-evoked my obsession for the band. I have been listening to their music for 2 weeks straight now.

Street Style...Pumped-Up Kicks & Cool Caps

Never before has it been as chic (or as acceptable) to walk down the street rocking designer sneakers and a baseball cap. A trend I have personally been advocating for years now, has finally been given the "go-ahead" for this season, from the fashion gods. Yippeee! You can now look cool and fashionable with little attention to your hair (Hallelujah!) and less torture to your feet (double Hallelujah!)
Isabel Marant, Chloe, and DKNY to name a few, are all doing a version of a high-fashion, wedge sneaker. I have a feeling wearing sneakers like these will translate into superhuman powers. Think, perks of a wedge (longer and leaner legs) and comfort of a sneaker (the ability to be on the go for hours.) Talk about fancy footwork.
DKNY Heath Sneakers, $299.19
Ash Bowie Sneaker, $224.95

Giuseppe Zanotti Suede and Leather Sneaker Wedge, $650

See by Chloe Leather and Suede Sneaker Style Ankle Boot, $395

Designers also gave the "A-Ok" to rock a cap this past S/S showing. The debut of the"baseball hat," marks what I believe to be a sort of fashion revolution. Yeah, it might only have a lifespan of this upcoming season, before jeweled hair clips and flowers wreathes come back. But, ladies, I urge you to take advantage of the perks of a baseball hat while still socially acceptable; i.e. forget about doing your hair!

Here are some super cool baseball hats that are sure to turn other heads while casually on yours.

L.G.B. hat, $45

WMU Giovanni Genuine Leather Baseball Cap, $12.20
Pendelton Admiral Cap, $39 (Urban Outfitters)

NYFW 2012 Favorites

I've been holding out on a NYFW post in order to create one big melting pot of a post, summarizing my personal favorites of the past week. Day after day, I spent hours ohhhhing and ahhhhing and drooling (just a little) over the overwhelming amount of luxury and glamor that is and will be Fall 2012. Black & white, sheer, fur, patterns, metallic, leather accents, and shades of red, burnt orange and blue strutted down the runway this past fashion week in New York.
This is the stuff fashion dreams are made of.

Funky Friday: Pryda-Melo Download

It's been quite some time since I've really jammed out to a techno tune, but after hearing Melo by Pryda, all I want to do is throw on some beaded bracelets and hop around like it's 2007. Light and trancey with a killer melody, Melo, sounds like the back track to a fantastical summer night's party somewhere deep in the Congo.

Happy Friday! :)

10 Crosby Derek Lam RTW Spring 2012

Though only in its second season, 10 Crosby by Derek Lam is causing major waves in the fashion world, commanding the attention of just about everyone. Bold, bright and playful describe the newest installment of the label for spring 2012 ready-to-wear. With a look-book that is to die for, Derek Lam has found a way to reinvent the way we think about layering stripes, patterns and color.  It won't be long before 10 Crosby becomes a massive player in the fashion game, with the potential of becoming even bigger than the original brand.
